Only original parts, authorized car service centers, and qualified mechanics are able to extend the life of commercial trucks. To ensure Volvo trucks are regularly maintained, we developed software built on the blockchain to watch any changes made in the vehicle. Now you control who can tighten the bolts in your business assets.

Customer profile
VOLVO

Volvo Trucks is a separate company within Volvo. It is a leading truck manufacturer that sells vehicles and services in more than 130 countries of the world. It works mainly with heavy trucks and construction equipment. The company decided to improve coordination between its truck companies and production units to build a more agile and efficient organization. With this goal in mind, the company decided to develop a blockchain network, which is necessary to digitize support and maintenance procedures.

The challenge

When the team got down to work, there were no similar systems in the automotive industry. The team needed to create blockchain architecture and develop the interface from scratch. The system employed earlier wasn’t involved in the storage of data. The task was to develop a blockchain supporting a unified network with real-time data.

The solution

The team developed the blockchain technology, connecting vehicles to the workshops of the network. It provides all data about the engine, brake pads, etc. in real time. With access to diagnostic trouble codes, certified technicians can monitor the status of trucks’ components, to prevent breakdown and return cars back on the road fast.

The process

Primarily, the team conducted the market research to discover similar cases and competitors. It took two months to complete the discovery stage and provide an estimate and a plan for the actual implementation work. During this period, our developers kept in touch with Volvo Trucks technical experts and discussed numerous issues with them. Despite huge expertise in the field, the sphere of blockchain wasn’t familiar for them at that time. For that reason, our company acted as a consultant by describing how the blockchain system works.

The development stage continued for 6 months. Following a detailed technical assignment, the team created MVP, and started testing the system. Time after time, new data appeared in the process of testing, making developers modify the code accordingly. The verification of expected features and functionalities required several iterations, until all issues were solved along the way.

There was no delivery stage, so the company didn’t integrate the system to Volvo Trucks.

The process of delivery and integration of a software product to the client’s business processes was implemented by the technology department of Volvo Trucks.
